The Fokker Dr.I was a World War I fighter aircraft built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. The Dr.I saw widespread service in the spring of 1918. It became famous as the aircraft in which the Red Baron, Manfred von Richthofen gained his last 19 victories, and in which he was killed on 21 April 1918.
In February 1917, the Sopwith Triplane began to appear over the Western Front. Despite its single Vickers machine gun armament, the Sopwith swiftly proved itself superior to the more heavily armed German Albatros fighters then in use by the Luftstreitkräfte. In April 1917, Anthony Fokker viewed a captured Sopwith Triplane while visiting Jasta 11. And following several rejected versions of its predecessor the Dr.I was born and was found to be much faster, more nimble and highly maneuverable
On 14 July 1917, Idflieg issued an order for 20 pre-production aircraft.
Our model captures the very essence of this formidable WW1 fighter, it has an open framework structure built from balsa and hardwoods and has a fiberglass cowl with molded dummy rotary engine. For ease of construction, all the parts are beautifully laser cut and are extremely accurate which will allow you to build the perfect model.
To complete the contents of this superb kit are a pair of vintage aircraft wheels, pre-formed and drilled wing struts and U/C legs, carbon tube wing spars and joiners plus a comprehensive hardware pack that includes nuts and bolts, rods and connectors etc.
Overall this is a fantastic kit and due to its ease of construction, it is perfect for the seasoned builder or those with limited building experience. Once finished in an authentic textured covering 10 and the addition of scale accessories such as a pilot and the included machine guns the Dr.I will really look the part and will turn many heads attacking the allied forces at your local flying field or RC flying club.
